With the Lenten season coming to a close, it’s easy to forget that Easter Sunday isn’t the only day that the church is celebrating the coming of the Easter season.
Holy week and the Sacred Triduum precedes Easter Sunday and includes Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
On Holy Thursday, the Catholic Church performs the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and the Washing of the Feet.
Good Friday is when many churches will take up a collection for The Holy Land and will perform stations of the cross.
Fr. Msgr. Harry Buglar of St.Charles Borromeo Catholic Church says that the 90 days of the Lenten and Easter seasons are central to the Catholic church’s calendar and in the lives of all Christians in a similar way as Jesus is the center of human history.
“It’s not merely a celebration of something that happened once upon a time,” Msgr. Buglar said. “When you look at the crucifix, you see a good man murdered. It has ongoing implications for us into eternity.”
Parishioners should remember to keep the entire Holy Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday sacred in the coming week in preparation for the Easter season.
