It’s time to give thanks

Though there are many disturbances around the world this day and age, there is still very much to be thankful for. That is what we should concentrate on as we enjoy our turkey and dressings this Thanksgiving.

Our civilization has advanced to the point where we can accomplish many things by the press of a button that in the olden days took much time and effort. We can also enjoy the company of others, even in faraway lands that formerly required days of travel, by using our telephones and laptops.

We can tune in to our leaders and entertainers by the flip of the television remote while eating pizza that was delivered to us by pre-order while doing things other than cooking it. And – hey – the sports world is at that same location near our living room chair whether it be football, soccer or any other cheering experience you may desire – Go Saints!

Meanwhile, let us remember there are others around us that may not be so fortunate and send our offer to help them enjoy life to the same extent and, likewise, be thankful for it.

Here in St. Charles Parish, we are blessed with many of nature’s offerings such as wonderland wetlands, waterways that serve many needs, woodlands for the beauty they provide, neighbors who are enjoyable to be with and a big city next door that provides most of the pleasant experiences enjoyed around the world, including good music and delicious dining.

We cannot think of any place that could provide much more. The fact that the maker of the universe has provided us with such great surroundings is definitely something to be thankful for. Perhaps we will have difficulties at times, but if we make the best of the good things we have, we will not be as bothered with the unpleasantries.

So be thankful this week for what we have today and pledge to do your part in maintaining it for yourself and others in the future.

Have a happy Thanksgiving as you spread your joy to others to help make this an even better world in which to live.
