Landry’s Outboard Motors is parish’s one-stop-spot for fishing, boating needs

For Jill and Robert Landry, owners of Landry’s Outboard Motors and Repair Service in Des Allemands, the last few years have been especially tough.

Due to COVID, they had to deal with major delays while ordering parts and the huge increase in price for both boats and engines that followed. Then, due to Hurricane Ida, their store suffered so much damage because of the storm that the building had to be gutted out completely.

“Thanks to family and friends, along with Robert working seven days a week, we were able to get the shop opened in four months,” Jill said. “We thank God for all the blessings we were given during this time.”

Ida did lead to a increase in offerings for Landry’s Outboard Motors. As they reopened following the storm, many customers asked if they would start to carry tackle since the only local tackle shop, Outdoor Express, was severely damaged by Ida.

“Robert reached out to the owners to see if they would be opening up. After a long debate, the owners decided not to,” Jill said. “We came together and decided to continue the tackle for our locals and took over their inventory. Robert and I have added additional tackle as our customers inquire.”

They have also extended shop hours to give customers the opportunity to stop in and load up on tackle. They are now open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday – Thursday, 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

“We sell live bait…shiners, worms, and nightcrawlers at this time,” Jill said. “As we get more acquainted with live bait we plan to extend to crickets and more. We also sell artificial local tackle like Captain Lane, 4-Horseman, Crappie Psychic, Delta Lures, Jaboom, Marsh Demon, Humdingers, Marker 54 and much more.”

They also sell boots, such as Xtratuff for men, women and children and Lacross for men.

Landry’s Outboard Motors is a Lowe Boat and Mercury dealer. They currently have two bay boats in stock.

“We have a 20-foot Lowe Bay Boat with a 115 HP Mercury and 22-foot Lowe Bay Boat with a 200 HP Mercury,” Jill said. “We will be getting another 22-foot Lowe Bay Boat with a 200 HP Mercury in stock soon.”

Landry’s also services Mercury, Yamaha, Evinrude and Johnson motors and they currently have seven in stock. The store also offers services for outboard engines, including carburetor cleaning, diagnostics and repairs to engines and electrical systems.

“We also install bilge pumps and aerator pumps, fuel systems, replace fuel filters and water fuel separator filters, replace panel gauges and switches, install battery trays and batteries, replace portable fuel tanks and much more,” Jill said.

Landry’s offers injector cleanings, along with the installation of Power Poles, depth finders, trolling motors, radios, Bimini tops and electronics. They repair boat trailers, offer same day annual service on engines by appointment and sell Interstate Batteries.

Jill said they have several offers going on now, including $2,500 off all Lowe Boats in stock, $100 off Power Poles throughout the month of April and 60 percent off all hunting merchandise in stock from Outdoor Express (applies to cash sales only).

“Robert and I are natives of St. Charles Parish and it is exciting to see old faces we grew up with and enjoy making friends with new faces,” Jill said. “As a small business, it is comforting to see locals come out to support us.”
