School-aged children in St. Charles Parish who attend state accredited schools will once again be eligible for free lunches this summer.
The Summer Food Service Program begins on June 3 and lasts until July 11 but will have two holidays on June 19 and July 4. Meals will be served Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 1: 30 p.m. No registration is required and the program is available to all parish children under age 18 or individuals with special needs who attend state-accredited school.
Last year, 3,121 lunches were served to St. Charles Parish students through the program.
There will be two new locations this year, including Luling Elementary School and Ethel Schoeffner Elementary School. Bus transportation to each site will be provided, but parents may also bring their students to the lunch sites.
“This program offers hot, nutritious meals during the summer months,” Roslyn Lacrouts, special programs coordinator with the St. Charles Parish Department of Community Services, said. “Also, students will be able to gather and enjoy some fun during the day.”
Lacrouts said that after the students eat, there are a variety of board games they can play.
“This time gives the students a chance to get out of the house and socialize with others during the summer,” she said.
