Carly Ann Fricken has won her share of pageants in the past year.
Carly, 10, started participating in pageants in 2009 and has already won her first national title.
In July, Carly, a 1st grade student at Mimosa Park Elementary, was named Louisiana Covergirl Princess, earning her a spot to compete for the national title.
Four months later, she traveled to California where she competed against 49 other girls and was crowned National All-American Miss Princess.
The pageant lasted the entire week of Thanksgiving and included not only the competition, but also a tour of Hollywood and different games for the conestants, such as a Ford Mustang giveaway.
Carly is the first winner to bring the title back home to Louisiana.
For the competition, Carly had to perform casual wear modeling, a beauty walk, a jazz dance and a personal introductory speech.
Her introduction speech highlighted her home state.
“Crawfish and gators and snakes, oh my! It’s not the land of Oz, it’s Sportsman’s Paradise,” Carly recited her speech to the St. Charles Parish Council during its December meeting where she was presented with a plaque.
Carly entered the Covergirl Princess pageant after her parents, David and Connie Fricken, received information about it in the mail.
“We got a letter in the mail two years ago and she wanted to do it, so I put her in it,” Connie said.
Carly, who wants to be a vet when she grows up, said that she wanted to participate in the pageant because she thought it would be fun and a good opportunity to meet new friends.
As part of her title, Carly is required to do 15 hours of community involvement and has already volunteered with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater New Orleans by participating in its annual Buddy Walk. Carly walked a mile during the event with a child that has Down Syndrome and their family.
Carly was also invited to attend the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas on Jan. 30 and she will be traveling to pageants all over the country during the summer of 2010.
In addition to all of the trips that Carly will take to pageants, a camera crew will be coming to Luling for eight hours to film “A day in the life of Carly” to be shown at the pageant.
When asked whether she will participate in future pageants, Carly said, “I definitely am.”
