Last season, the senior-laded Wildcats captured a share of the 6-5A championship after tearing through district with a 13-2 record. Destrehan made it to the state quarterfinals before falling to district foe Dutchtown in a 5-4 heartbreaker.
This year, the Wildcats return ace right-hander and LSU signee Kurt McCune and Gold Glove shortstop Sam Carriere, who has signed with Nicholls State. However, most of the team is seeing serious action for the first time. As of now, the Wildcats are 6-7, but can they go on another tear once they reach district?
Meanwhile, Hahnville finished one win shy of the state playoffs and wrapped up the 2009 season with an 18-17 record. The Tigers lost nine seniors that saw significant playing time last year, but do return four good starters in Britten Lanaux, Ryne Robert, Jared Harrell and Dillon Boudreaux.
So far, the Tigers are 9-5 on the season, and head coach Kade Rogers feels that they have a good chance in district play as long as the squad continues to play hard.
