The Hahnville Tigers clawed their way to another huge victory, knocking out Dutchtown 41-7. Meanwhile, the Destrehan Wildcats had another tough night, falling to East St. John 41-9.
The Hahnville offense got off to a relatively slow start Friday night, but still took an early lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Alfred Blue. Dutchtown would counter later in the first quarter, using the wildcat formation to free Johnathan Darville for a 68-yard touchdown.
While the game would remain close throughout the next quarter, Hahnville took advantage of a turnover to take a 14-7 lead when Brian Ensminger hit Byron Gauthier for a 13-yard score with 35 seconds left until intermission.
In the second half, it was all Hahnville.
Blue scored two more touchdowns in the third and Ensminger added another score when he connected with James Butler from 21 yards out. Lloyd Richard would finish off the Griffins with a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The win moved the Tigers to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in district.
While Hahnville cruised, Destrehan continued to stumble. East St. John receiver Dhaquille Williams tore through the Wildcat secondary for four touchdowns, including one after time expired in the second quarter.
And while Williams had a big night, running back Reynaldo Young actually scored the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard run. Williams would get his first score on a 30-yard pass from Kalen Henderson late in the first to give East St. John a 14-0 lead.
Destrehan managed to get on the board with a 32-yard field goal by Andrew Wyatt in the second, but Williams scored twice more in the quarter to give East St. John a 28-3 lead at the half.
The Wildcats only score would come on a 36-yard run by Henry Lenox, but East St. John poured on two more touchdowns in the fourth to finish the blowout.
The loss dropped Destrehan to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in the district.
