Tigers win 42-7, Wildcats fall 48-10
The Hahnville Tigers picked up a big win on Friday by blasting Vanderbilt Catholic 42-7 behind three touchdowns from Alfred Blue and two TD passes by Brian Ensminger. Meanwhile, Lutcher’s offensive weapons proved too much for the Destrehan Wildcats, who fell 48-10.
As the Tigers have done all season long, they established the run early and proved their dominance in the first quarter. Blue bulldozed Vanderbilt defenders on touchdown runs of 2 and 6 yards to give Hahnville an early 14-0 lead.
In the second, Blue came through again with a 6-yard touchdown run, and Brian Ensminger poured on the points shortly after, hitting Byron Gauthier for a 9-yard score and then hooking up with Dontrell Strickland on a 22-yard score.
Strickland would put the finishing touch on the Tiger victory in the third, fielding a punt and flying through and around defenders for a 56-yard score.
Though the offense was impressive once again, the defense has quietly been going about its business. The Tiger defense forced five turnovers, including three fumble recoveries by Shea Majoria, and interceptions by Ben Taylor and Jake Noel.
While Hahnville cruised to an easy win, Destrehan’s offense had trouble getting going early on, but the team was only trailing Lutcher 7-3 after the first quarter.
That’s as close as the Wildcats would get.
Bulldog quarterback Gavin Webster four touchdown passes in the second quarter alone, including two in a one-minute span. The first touchdown pass of the quarter was a 27 yarder to Daniel Taylor. Webster then hit Jarvis Landry on a 56-yard strike three minutes later and tossed a five-yard score with 22.6 remaining until the half.
On the ensuing kickoff return, Kyron King fumbled the ball and Webster would toss his fourth touchdown pass of the quarter, this one for 28 yards, to Landry to put the Bulldogs up 35-10.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs turned to the ground game with Taylor scoring on runs of 80 and 60 yards to put the game away 48-10.
