Hahnville beats Walker, Destrehan over Ehret

Tigers ride running game to 28-14 victory

It may have been hot and humid at Tiger Stadium on Friday night, but there was a “Whiteout” on the field as Hahnville running back Ahmad White rushed for over 200 yards and four touchdowns in the Tiger’s 28-14 victory over O. Perry Walker.

The Tiger defense was also key in the victory, holding a Charger team that was averaging close to 37 points a game to just two touchdowns. The Tigers had four takeaways on the night, two of them interceptions in Charger territory. The first of those interceptions by defensive back Devonty Alexander set up White’s first touchdown of the game. The second, snatched by linebacker Brody Bourg, his second of the game, set up White’s final score early in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers built up an early 21-0 lead that took them through halftime and the beginning of the third quarter. Two of those drives were highlighted by long receptions from quarterback Brian Ensminger to receivers Ronny Green and Dontrell Strickland.

Ensminger, who was injured last week against Lutcher, was healthy enough to start and completed 6 of 15 passes for 102 yards.

In the third quarter, the Tiger offense was held in check by the Chargers which allowed Walker an opportunity to keep the game from becoming a blowout.

The Chargers finally cracked the Tiger defense late in the third quarter on a 50-yard drive that was helped along by two lengthy penalties on the Tigers. The other Charger score came on a long drive in the fourth quarter, but by then the Tigers had sealed up the game.

After falling to Lutcher last week, the Tigers rebound with a strong victory to improve to 3-1 on the season. Hahnville will host Vanderbilt Catholic next Friday in their Homecoming game.

Destrehan 14    John Ehret 12

After quarterback Taylor Dunn left the Destrehan football team this week, sophomore Dillan Dent was thrust into the starting role and helped lead the Wildcats to a 14-12 win over John Ehret Friday night.

Destrehan wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, when defensive lineman Marrick Charles picked off the ball at the 22-yard line and rumbled his way to the 13. Dent’s first carry went for negative yardage, but the quarterback would eventually use his quick feet to escape pressure while rolling to the left to find De’Ante Armstrong in the endzone.

Both defenses dominated from that point on, with neither offense managing to sustain any long drives. But to begin the third quarter, sophomore Rickey Jefferson returned the kickoff 92-yards to give his team all the points they would need for the victory.

The Wildcats (2-2) will host Lutcher next week. For more information from the Destrehan/Ehret game, as well as a preview of the Destrehan/Lutcher game, see the Sept. 30 issue of the Herald-Guide.
