Troxler successor is very important

St. Charles Parish will undoubtedly miss the work of Tab Troxler as emergency preparedness director when he leaves to accept a similar position for Dow Chemical Company. He has been a valuable leader in that very important spot.

Troxler has done a notable job in planning for the parish response to emergencies. This work has already shown its value in hurricane preparation recently and has given us a sense of safety should any emergencies arise from the existence of chemical and nuclear plants here.

Replacing Troxler will be an important job for our parish administration and council. A person from within with local experience would have some benefits that an outsider would not possess. But the overall knowledge of how to plan and prepare for the emergencies that could arise here, but have not in the past, should not be overlooked. And that is only half of the job.

Reaction of the department after the emergency has occured would be a key element in the effectiveness of our defensive posture.

We thank Troxler for his valuable services in the past and wish him well. Our parish administration and council have a big job in choosing his successor. He could be very important to our future safety.
