Thousands expected in Destrehan for May’s Little Red Church Fest

Parish President Matt Jewell, his wife Cera and their children enjoy the Little Red Church Food & Fun Festival in 2023.

Around 5,000 people are expected to head to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan from Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5 for the 42nd Annual Little Red Church Food & Fun Festival.

“I think what makes our festival such a fun event to attend is the rekindled friendships among old classmates, friends or family members,” Ronald Rodrigue, administrative assistant at St. Charles Borromeo, said. “It is a chance to visit in a safe family environment.”

This year’s musical lineup includes local favorites The Topcats, Adam Pearce, Groovy 7, Ryan Foret and Kings of Neon. The Topcats will close out the fest on Friday night with a three-hour set from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Adam Pearce and Groovy 7 will perform on Saturday, while Ryan Foret and Kings of Neon will play on Sunday.

Amusement park rides will be featured throughout the weekend and ride bracelets for the entire fair are $65 in advance and $75 once the fair begins. Individual ride tickets will also be sold.

Along with the rides, carnival games such as a shooting gallery, baseball throw, dart throw, basket of blessings, mini basketball and corn hole will be held during the festival. Food available will include crawfish and meat pies, nachos, pulled pork, boudin egg rolls, jambalaya and red beans and shrimp stew. Of course, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, fried fish, onion mums and funnel cakes will be available as well.

The festival gates will be open from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. On Sunday, May 5 the festival will be open from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
