Religions can play bigger role in world unity

It’s time for religions to get a better grip on unifying populations into a saner direction for the world. Most of them have many of the same basic values. It would be beneficial for them to get together in promoting those values.

Even Christian and Muslim religions can find a great deal of common ground in their beliefs. And there is a great deal of overlap among the major religions in regions of the world, making them international in scope.

It is something that nations of the world have not been able to do. They are too regionalized with different selfish interests, not based on moral values.

The one international church leader, Pope Benedict XVI, could lead the way. Right now he is trying to defuse tensions he created with Muslims over a quotation he read in a speech which belittled them. The quotation did not represent his beliefs but those who are trying to create dissentions used it as a battle cry.

Perhaps that could be the start of the unity campaign the world needs in promoting the many beliefs the churches have in common. It could undermine the efforts of devilish enemies who do not want such unity to exist.

The time has come for religions to play a unified part in making the world a better place in which to live.
