PhD wants Jindal’s job

Dr. Gilda Werner Reed is mom of 7, too

Psychologist and mother-of-seven Gilda Werner Reed, Ph.D. has formally announcing her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives, First Congressional District of Louisiana. The next scheduled election is in 2008 but a special election will be called sooner if Rep. Bobby Jindal wins the governor’s seat he is now seeking.

Besides bringing an end to the war in Iraq, Reed, who works in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Orleans, plans to pursue the issues of affordable health care, developmentally appropriate education, and coastal restoration – all while remaining fiscally responsible.

She supports House Resolutions 3, 4, 5, 6 and 63 – all of which Jindal voted against.

H.R. 3 favors stem cell research. H.R. 4 involves prescription negotiations for Medicare beneficiaries. H.R. 5 reduces interest rates for subsidized college loans from 6.8% to 3.4%. H.R. 6 ends certain subsidies for big oil and invests in clean, renewable energy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. H.R. 63 disapproves of President Bush’s plan to deploy more than 20,000 additional U.S. combat troops to Iraq.
