Volunteers from across the parish will get their hands dirty at the Trash Bash on March 26 in order to beautify the area. And after they clean up, they’ll be treated to an exciting celebration, including free food, music and games at the West Bank Bridge Park.
With the help of a $5,000 grant through the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Program and an additional $2,500 donation from the Entergy Foundation, Trash Bash will again cause parish residents and leaders to come together to clean up litter from parish streets.
The “after-party with a purpose” will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, jambalaya, smoked sausage, dessert and drinks. The Wetland Watchers of Destrehan’s Harry Hurst Middle School will again host their popular live animal and educational displays. The event will also feature games and giveaways from Keep Louisiana Beautiful, as well as musical entertainment.
In addition, groups contributing the most volunteers and picking up the largest amount of trash will receive awards. The Trash Bash committee will also present its second annual Trash Bash Citizenship Award to an individual for his or her outstanding contributions to the planning and development of the Trash Bash event.
Last year, a total of 256 volunteers from community groups and industry covered 124 miles of the parish and filled 229 bags with roadside litter.
Volunteers spread out across heavily-trafficked areas of the parish to pick up the litter and also collected some unusual items, including 48 tires, two signs, two poles, a propane tank and siding.
So far, 230 people have already signed up for the Trash Bash and more are expected to sign up this week.
To sign up for the litter cleanup in your community, beginning at 8:30 a.m., visit www.scptrashbash.org or call the St. Charles Parish Contract Monitor’s Office at (985) 764-1207. All work equipment will be provided, including pick up sticks, trash bags and T-shirts. Verification certificates are also available for students needing service hours.

Parish leaders will also get input from community members through a survey about ideas to sustain the parish beautification effort begun through this event.
