The Louisiana 4-H Foundation is conducting a “scavenger hunt” in a quest to find memorabilia for display in the new Louisiana 4-H Museum in Mansura.
The museum is looking for photos, medals, trophies, clothing, demonstration materials, record books and other objects that depict the history of 4-H in Louisiana, according to Rose Anne St. Romain, the museum coordinator.
The state 4-H foundation will award 20 $100 cash prizes to the parish 4-H foundations whose residents submit the best items in each of 20 categories, St. Romain said. Details can be found at the LSU AgCenter Web site, www.lsuagcenter.com, and putting “scavenger hunt” in the search box.
The 2008 creation of the museum coincides with the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Louisiana. It will showcase the evolution of Louisiana 4-H from the 1908 Corn Clubs for boys to an organization that now serves more than 200,000 young people each year.
4-H is the youth development and outreach program of the nation’s land-grant universities and is operated in Louisiana by the LSU AgCenter. It involves young people in educational projects, camps, activities, trips and school enrichment programs that foster development of life skills in science, engineering and technology, citizenship, healthy living and much more.
“Items can be loaned or donated to the museum and submitted through any local parish LSU AgCenter office,” St. Romain said. “All items submitted for consideration must be accompanied by a complete donation form, which is available from parish offices.”
St. Romain said the museum will accept items either as donations or for loan, depending on the wishes of the individual.
