Living center residents enjoy Mardi Gras

On Feb. 9, Luling Living Center held its 7th annual Mardi Gras ball for residents.

Family members came to celebrate Carnival with their elderly relatives who were not letting their age and ailments keep them from having a good time.

“It was very nice. All the residents and the family members enjoyed themselves,” said Mike Guillera, the center’s administrator. “They danced and did a second line. Even the residents with walkers and wheel chairs danced.”

About 50 residents joined in the party and enjoyed dancing, king cake and jambalaya.

A king, queen and court were chosen by residents by a vote.
“We got official voting booths from the parish for official voting,” Guillera said. “We let the residents and employees vote. I think there were 12 residents on the ballot for king and queen.”

The results were in at the ball and Madeline Davis was named queen and Calvin Terrebone was named king.

The court of maids and dukes included William Crisp, Clarence Burdwell, Helen Faucheaux and Margaret Catoire.
