The Mystique Krewe of Muddy Paws, a dog parade created my residents of the Willowdale neighborhood to help out the St. Charles Animal Shelter, rolled on April 17.
Willowdale residents invited everyone to join in with their dog on a leash, in a wagon or even on a golf cart. Each dog that participated was given a free bandana.
The shelter brought three of the best dogs in the shelter to walk in the parade and show off their stuff.
Stevie Nicks, an 8-month-old black border collie mix, was one of the choices.
“She came in as a stray, but she’s got one of the most beautiful coats I’ve ever seen on a dog in my life – she never smells bad,” said Angie Robert, director of the shelter.
Next in the parade 2-year-old golden retriever mix Chewy.
“She’s also fantastic,” Robert said. “She does take some commands, like sit and stay, and she fetches real good.”
Ty, a 1-year-old brown terrior, brought u pthe rear.
“Ty’s just the sweetest little lap dog you would ever want to come across,” Robert said about the dog. “He loves, loves, loves children.”
Robert said that the shelter was very greatful to the Willowdale residents for putting on the parade.
“Muddy Paws is a group of residents in Willowdale that decided to do something nice for the animals,” she said. “They’re just residents who felt like they needed to do something and this is what they did and we couldn’t thank them enough. We look forward to doing it next year with them.”
Robert said that awareness is key when trying to get the animals adopted.
“A lot of times people get busy in their everyday lives…and sometimes the animals at the shelter are out of sight and out of mind, so we’ve got to make sure that we stay in the public eye,” she said. “We are still here, we still have animals coming in every day, we still have animals that are in desperate need of a good home.”
