Hello Governor

Luling Elementary 3rd grade students got the chance to visit the governor’s home in Baton Rouge during a recent field trip.

The first stop was the governor’s mansion, home of the head of the executive branch, Governor Bobby Jindal. From there, the group were off to the new state capitol.

In addition to learning the history of the building and the story of Heuy P. Long, they toured the observation deck on the 27th floor.

From that vantage point, they got a bird’s eye view of the Mississippi river, a great lead into their study of the maps of Louisiana.

They concluded the day with a stop at the old state capitol building.  Here they were able to learn even more about Louisiana’s government and history.

The trip was educational for students, teachers and parents alike.

Third grade students in Mrs. Stephens’ and Mrs. Matherne’s classes pose in the governor’s mansion in Baton Rouge.  From left to right, Jerry Spencer, Zebediah Goodman, Mercedes Smith and Jordan Baptiste pose in from of the governor’s living room.
