Parish mourns loss of young employee

By Renee Simpson

U.S. flags in front of all St. Charles Parish government buildings were flown at half-mast last week to honor the memory of Jacque Griffin.

Griffin, 19, of Des Allemands, was a meter reader with the St. Charles Parish Department of Waterworks who lost his life in a tragic train-truck accident March 10 while on the job.

St. Charles Parish sends its condolences to the Griffin family during this difficult time.

Officials make case for needed infrastructure

Parish officials recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with the Louisiana delegation to secure funding for priority infrastructure projects, such as the West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee.

They made a big impression with a video presentation outlining the importance of St. Charles Parish to the rest of the region and nation. The presentation showed the reasons it is important to protect our way of life.

Between power plants, railways, important evacuation routes and major commodity-producing industry, a suffering St. Charles Parish will mean a suffering nation.
