The one-stop medical shop comes to Luling

Doctors welcome return of ‘continuity of care’

The newly opened Primary and Specialty Physicians of St. Charles in Luling offers services for the entire family, a concept following the national trend of one-stop medical shops.

This is not just a walk-in clinic or urgicare center, this is primary care from birth on – a freestanding clinic,” said Dr. Douglas Bostick Jr., a pediatrician, who along with Dr. Patrick Stumpf, a primary care physician, work at the center. “We’re very excited about the outlook for the center. This will provide a standard of care that most parishes don’t have in Louisiana.”

Bostick and Stumpf, who have more than 80 years experience collectively, both welcome bringing medical services under one roof because it facilitates doctors communicating with one another about a patient’s care. Bostick said if a primary care physician needs more information about a patient, he or she just goes down the hall to the specialist. Additionally, the patient benefits by saving time getting to see a physician, as well as can see that person in the clinic.

“This is new,” Bostick said of the only one-stop medical shop that he’s aware of in Louisiana that offers what is known as “continuity of care” and delivered in such a way that he considers it the future of medicine. “This is wonderful. This is the way the clinics should be that will set the stage and standard for full care under one roof.”

Located at 107 Maryland Drive, the 10,500-square-foot-center opened in March. It includes 19 exam rooms, a laboratory, an X-ray room, two minor procedure rooms, six consultation offices, a large waiting room and five sub-waiting areas.

The clinic currently has an office manager, two physicians, reference clerk, three front desk staff, two X-ray lab technicians, two medical assistants and two nurse practitioners. Staff will be increased as demand increases.

Luling was chosen for the center because the area, as well as Boutte, are underserved, Bostick said.

Excited about the one-stop shop concept, Bostick said this is an approach to medical care that his patients have sought for more 20 years.

Patients just look at the physician schedule and see who will be at the clinic, schedule the appointment and it’s convenient, he said.

Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For emergencies, doctors are available 24 hours a day every day.

Stumpf said the facility is not a five-story complex, it’s simple and straight forward.

According to Bostick, “We’re very excited about it – this concept of care for the entire family under the same roof.”
