Last Friday was a tough one for the Hahnville Tigers.
The team was riding high off a thrilling victory over Dutchtown and headed to East St. John hoping for the same kind of magic.
Instead, it was East St. John who pulled out the win, getting the best of the Tigers in six overtimes by a 43-42 score. Still though, Hahnville proved that they are a top competitor for the state crown this season and running back Lauren White is just one of the reasons why.
White energized his teammates in the second half, reeling off a pair of first down runs in the third quarter, then following with five catches for 30 yards in the fourth. In overtime, White helped extend the game another period by rumbling for a touchdown.
And even though his individual performance was something to be proud of, White was left thinking about his team’s missed opportunities.
“We made a lot of mistakes in the first half,” he said. “We did better in the second half, but some of the damage was already done.”
However, while they didn’t pick up the win, White was impressed with both his teammates and his coaches ability to leave it all on the field.
“Playing games like this reminds me of the intensity my teammates and I have for this game,” White said. “These are the games I really like to see the stats for.”
Games like those are why White hopes to continue his football career in college playing for LSU, Louisiana Tech, or University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He would also like to get a chance to play professionally, but if that doesn’t work out, he hopes to have a career in computer science.
But before he can get to all that, White has something else on his radar.
“I’m really hoping to stay healthy this year and not have a serious injury,” he said. “I want to get a chance to play in the dome for the championship.”
