Luling’s Sara Weber dances for thousands as a New Orleans VooDoo Doll

The New Orleans VooDoo ended its May-long losing streak when the team defeated the Columbus Destroyers 83-61 on May 30. And although they’ve hit the road this month with a nail-biting 58-51 loss to the New York Dragons, they have a lot to look forward to.

The team will have home field advantage in the last game of the season and arena football fans will get one last shot to watch the crowd-pleasing choreography of Luling’s Sara Weber.

Weber, 20, who’s still in the infancy stages of her VooDoo Doll career, says that performing for thousands of fans puts her on top of the world.

“Although we don’t get to travel with the team, we get to perform at least twice at home games,” said Weber. “It’s exhilarating and lots of fun to entertain the VooDoo fans.”

Weber first auditioned for the VooDoo Doll dance team in December 2007 after a friend notified her about tryouts.

“I heard about tryouts from a friend who was already on the team,” said Weber. “I was first impressed with their dancing ability when I attended a game the previous season, so I tried out.”

And with nearly 18 years dance experience under her belt, Weber has no problem keeping all the moves on point.

“I have 14 years of studio dance experience and was a Hi-Stepper at Hahnville High School for four years,” said Weber.

Some would say that almost two decades of dance experience is more than enough to fill the performance void, but Weber disagrees.

“I definitely proud the fact that I’ve had the opportunity to bond with the other girls on the team and have such a devoted fan base,” said Weber.

“I take pride in the fact that I am part of an organization who’s having a great season. Hopefully we advance to the playoffs.”

Weber says that she’d love to further her dance career, but is currently focusing on attaining her bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of New Orleans.

“I also plan on getting my master’s degree and someday open my own business as a wedding planner,” said Weber.

The New Orleans VooDoo travel to Orlando on June 13 to face off with the Predators before heading home for their last regular season game against the Grand Rapids Rampage.

The VooDoo stand in second place behind the Georgia Force in the southern division with an 8-6 record.
