Maybe it was the comet streaking overhead or maybe it was the first Friday meet, but whatever the reason, it affected both the Hahnville boys and girls track teams – and not in a good way.
At South Terrebonne High School, the boys finished the meet in the third spot with 82.5 points, 2.5 points behind second place Ellender and 23 points behind first place South Lafourche, who will be a district rival beginning this fall.
Although the team faltered, there were some bright spots to be seen. Hurdler Brandon Singleton again took first place in the 110 meter hurdles. Bryce Robinson continued his domination of the bayou region with first place finishes in the 800 meter and 3200 meter runs. Larry Boyd claimed second place in the 300 meter hurdles and the 4×400 relay team took third.
On the field side, Rickey Preston (javelin) and Lamar Foster (high jump) each finished third in their events.
The girls team finished with 39 points, 99 points away from first place Thibodaux, who will also be in the same district as the Tigers this fall. Just as the boys had some bright spots, the girls had some also. On the track, the girls 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams each scored a second place finish. In the field events, Breanne Bias finished in second place in the triple jump and Maya Gauthier brought home a third place finish in the discus.
