Time is running out for duck, deer hunters

But redfish, sac-a-lait and bass continue to bite

Time is running out for deer and duck hunters. In Area 6, our area, the firearm season will remain open until Jan. 24. Primitive arms will continue from Jan. 25-31.
Archery will remain open until Feb. 15.

We are in the West Zone for ducks, which means that the season will close Jan. 24.

As a deer and duck hunter, this means fellow hunters and I have only three weeks left to our seasons.  Be prepared hunters-the seasons are quickly coming to a close.

Fishing

A lot of big bass are being caught in Lake Cataouatche.

The bait that has produced the big catches is the baby brushhog in the watermelon with red metal flake.  The white spinner bait and the baby minus one in white and chartreuse have caught well.  The bulkhead before the Tank Ponds and the Netherlands has been the place to be.

If the wind is pushing water through the cuts of the bulkheads, fish the middle of the cuts.  The mouth of the Louisiana Cypress Canal along the grass beds has been the hottest spot in the area for bass.

Sac-a-lait have been caught in Paradis along Highway 90 at the pumps.  Wait until the sun goes down and start fishing.  Blue/white, black/chartreuse, and shiners have worked the best.

Salt Water

According to a few fishermen, plenty of redfish are being caught along Highway 1 going to Grand Isle.  The bridges along Highway 1, The Snake Pit, the culvert behind the Lafourche Parish Port Commission in Fourchon and the bridge crossing over to Grand isle.

Best bait has been shrimp on a jig head on the bottom.
