The gradual emergence of Hahnville quarterback Jha’quan Jackson has made Hahnville an especially dangerous team — just ask Thibodaux how dangerous.
Jackson accounted for four first half touchdowns, two rushing and two passing, helping his team build a 27-0 lead en route to an eventual 41-13 victory on the road at Thibodaux (1-6, 1-3).
The junior quarterback threw just five passes but completed three of them for 101 yards, including touchdown strikes to Daryle Evans and Noah Zeringue.
“Those were balls we couldn’t complete earlier in the year,” Hahnville coach Nick Saltaformaggio said. “We didn’t have to throw it much tonight, but when we did it was effective. We hit those two long balls for touchdowns, Jamel Byrd hauled in another nice one … we got our play-action game going.”
Saltaformaggio said Jackson’s rapid improvement comes as no surprise to those who know the junior.
“He’s come a very long way,” Saltaformaggio said. “I know what kind of kid he is, what kind of person he is and what kind of student he is.”
Of course, Hahnville’s offensive bread and butter remains its rushing attack, and the Tigers (5-2, 3-0) again generated more than 200 yards on the ground on their way to their fifth instance of scoring 40 or more in seven games.
Anthony Williams punched in a 48-yard rushing score in the third quarter to increase Hahnville’s lead to 34-0 and all but slam the door on Thibodaux’s prospects for a rally. Williams finished with 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the night, his second touchdown run an 18-yarder.
Hahnville is alone in first place in District 7-5A, the only team without a district loss. Friday marked the team’s fourth consecutive victory.
“Our kids are feeling good,” Saltaformaggio said. “I think they’re starting to realize this might be a special football team. We’ve been good, but this team has a little moxie about them.”
