Otto Candies advances to regional

Otto Candies, an American Legion team made up of Hahnville High School baseball players, has advanced to the state Southeast Regionals.

The regionals will be played this weekend at Kirsch Rooney Stadium at Delgado in New Orleans. Otto Candies will face Shaw-based Refuel at noon on Saturday.

If they win that game, they will play at 7 p.m. on Sunday. If they fall to Refuel, they will play at noon on Sunday. If Otto Candies finishes in the top four at the regional tournament, they will advance to the state tournament in Sulphur.

Otto Candies won their district and earned the top seed in last week’s district tournament, meaning they only had to win one game to advance to regionals. Otto Candies did so by beating St. Charles Catholic-based Townsend Homes 5-3. Brooks Vial picked up the win for Otto Candies, allowing three runs on three hits in seven innings. Tyler Lamers earned the save. Dylan Keller led Otto Candies from the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI.
