Notes from Hahnville High

All-stars take a beating

High school football players from river region had their chance to shine at the 1st Annual River Parishes vs. Bayou Parishes All-Star Game at Nicholls State University, but lost 36-20. The All-Star team included four distinguished Hahnville High School football players, Dustin Ockman – line backer, Jordan Stephany – running back, Early James – quarterback, and Shane Boyle – defensive back.

“We simply underestimated them,” said Ockman. “It’s really easy for the offense because the defense has to stay and cover three guys and couldn’t blitz any linebackers, so the quarterbacks had too much time to throw.”

Boys soccer loaded with firepower
HHS boys soccer team beat East St. John High School 4-2. “The boys’ soccer team is absolutely afire with energy, skill, and teamwork,” said Krystal Coates. Team picture on page 8C.

Wrestlers place at tournament
The HHS wrestling team came to the Rummel High School tournament with high hopes, and left with some pretty impressive scores.

Levi Gruwell, Brice Jacobs, Ricky Baudoin and Nathan Fremen all landed second place. Carl Simineaux and Mason Dupre both came in at third place.

On a side note, wrestler Levi Gruwell achieved his 100th career win last week.
