The Hahnville Tigers boys soccer team stretched their season record to 6-2 after a 2-1 victory over Terrebonne on Friday.
One of Hahnville’s senior captains, Lamar James, scored off of a throw in from junior Jonathan Schmaltz to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
Terrebonne answered with a goal of their own to end the first half, and the teams entered the second half locked at 1-1.
Late in the second half the ball was cleared forward by Hahnville freshman mid-fielder Brennen Samaha to Schmaltz. Schmaltz worked the ball past Terrebonne’s defense to score the go-ahead goal for the win.
The win over Terrebonne came after another impressive Tiger victory over Shaw High School.
In that game, the Tigers jumped out to a quick lead over Shaw then held on to win 3-2.
All three goals for the Tigers came in the first half, but Shaw scored two late goals to make a game of it.
Hahnville junior forward Schmaltz scored a “Hat Trick” by netting all three goals for the Tigers.
The assist on the first goal came from Samaha with a nice cross to Schmaltz. The second assist was from Bryan Bennett, while the third assist for goal came by way of an Austin Fremen pass.
Shaw scored their first goal in the second half on a breakaway run.
Their second goal actually came when Hahnville knocked the ball into their own net while trying to clear it.
The Hahnville boys junior varsity played following the varsity game and defeated Shaw 2-0. Scoring in this game for Hahnville were freshman Chase Ledet and junior Destin Ryals.
HHS Lady Tigers beat Terrebonne 2-1
The Hahnville High School Lady Tigers defeated Terrebonne in a non-district match, 2-1.
Terrebonne scored first when Taylor Bergeron capitalized on a breakaway to sneak a goal past Hahnville’s goal keeper. Later in the first half, Lady Tiger goalkeeper Destiny Louivere made a tremendous stop on a penalty kick awarded to Terrebonne.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Lady Tigers of Hahnville responded with two second-half goals by sophomore Grayson Touchard.
The Lady Tiger defense, led by seniors Kayleigh Eppling and Claire Crutti, then shutdown Terrebonne in the second half to secure a key non-district victory.
Terrebonne is favored to win District 7-5A this season. The Hahnville ladies are now 9-4-1 on the year.
Both the boys and girls soccer teams will return to action this Friday when they travel to Destrehan.
Kickoff for the girls is scheduled for 6 p.m., while kickoff for the boys game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
