After a tough district loss to rival Destrehan, Hahnville rallied to upend Thibodaux last Thursday, then went 2-1 at the Riverside volleyball tournament last weekend.
After turning over almost its entire lineup — middle blocker Stephanie Oubre is the team’s lone returning starter — the Tigers are 15-12 overall and 3-2 in district play, and coach Mendi LeBoeuf is pleased with her team’s progress as their chemistry has improved.
“When you turn over a lineup like we did, there’s a lot of work to be done, a lot of trust to be built. And we just keep working hard and getting better.
“For us, establishing more consistency is a focus. We’ve been up and down, but that happens with a young team.”
Against Dominican, Hahnville (15-12, 3-2) captured a 25-17, 18-25, 15-10 victory (tournament rules dictated the winning team outscore the opponent in two of three games).
Brianna Plaisance made nine kills. Bailey Roux racked up 14 assists and 10 digs. Leah Spurgeon had eight digs, while Chelsea Plaisance and Kristen Crutti both had seven.
Against Dunham, HHS took a 25-10, 16-25, 15-9 win. Oubre posted 11 kills. Roux had 24 assists and Brianna Plaisance served three aces.
The Tigers’ lone loss of the tournament came against Lutcher, which took a 25-16, 25-18 victory. Oubre led HHS in kills with eight while Roux posted 18 assists.
“I thought we started a little slow there against Lutcher,” LeBoeuf said.
Hahnville secured a winning record through a round of district play with a 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11 win over Thibodaux. Three Tigers recorded double-digit kills: Oubre (17), Brianna Plaisance (12) and Chelsea Plaisance (11). Roux had a match-high 39 assists and added seven digs.
