Last season, Terrebonne put 52 points up on the Tiger Stadium scoreboard in a 14-point victory over host Hahnville.
Not the case Thursday night.
Hahnville earned its first shutout of the season as HHS dominated en route to a 48-0 District 7-5A victory over Terrebonne.
“A complete effort. Offense, defense and special teams,” said Hahnville head football coach Greg Boyne. “We ran the ball well, threw the ball well … defense was unbelievable. By far, probably the most physical, complete game we’ve played in two years. Defensively, coming in, we knew (Terrebonne) was good, so to put up 48 with a lot of help from our defense was pretty exciting.”
Fabian Celestine scored three touchdowns for the second consecutive week to lead Hahnville. Jah’mar Lewis rushed for two scores and Treson Fields another on a night the Tigers dominated through the rushing attack. Backup quarterback Madden Mayeux, in in relief of starter Landen Teague in the second half, threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Williams.
And Lionel Irons intercepted a pass for the second straight week. Prior to last week’s game against H.L. Bourgeois, the HHS defense had recovered seven fumbles but had no interceptions, but the junior cornerback has helped rectify that.
“I just did my job,” Irons said. “My teammates did their job and I did my job … Coach told us, reminded us they put up 52 on us last year. So we had to lock in, mentally prepare, watch film and do all the necessary things we need to do … we just came together as a team and won.”
Hahnville led 21-0 after the first quarter and never looked back from there.
Boyne said his team got a little bit of extra motivation from a former Hahnville great before Thursday night’s game.
“Kentrell Lockett, who’s one of the legends around here, gave one incredible pregame speech,” Boyne said. “Talking to the defense about how things used to be and how they took pride in a shutout when he was here and also in the 90s.”
Lockett starred for Hahnville at defensive end, wearing the purple and gold from 2002 to 2006. He went on to be a key player up front for Ole Miss.
“You could kind of see the kids kind of jumping of their seats in the meeting room. So we might need to get him back for another one. He had all the coaches saying, ‘Look, I’m ready to play’ … I thought the scheme was very good from Coach (Malter) Scobel and our defensive staff. We were flying around. Ty Summers, Austin Sanchez, every time you look up, the linebackers are making plays. Beaux Woods played a really good game. And the secondary – if we’re hitting like that, we’ve got a shot to win every game we’re in.”
This was the fourth consecutive win for Hahnville (4-2, 2-0) after two losses to begin the year.
Terrebonne dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in district play.
Hahnville couldn’t have asked for a better performance heading into next week, when it will travel to rival Destrehan.
But in more ways than one, that’s an entirely different ball game, Boyne said.
“When that game kicks off, it’s how your kids handle it. The electricity, how you handle that is going to matter more than anything we did tonight,” said Boyne.
