Mrs. Alverta Rita Breaux Daigneault, 102, of Grenada, and a longtime resident of Ama, LA, passed peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada.
Alverta was born on January 22, 1924, in Matthews, Louisiana, to the late Adam Etienne Breaux and Aggie Picou Breaux. For over a century, she filled every room she entered with warmth, wisdom, and an unmistakable Louisiana spirit.
For many years, Alverta poured her heart into her role as a devoted homemaker, creating a loving home for her family. Later in life, she brought that same care and dedication into the classroom and office as a member of the staff at Live Oak Elementary School and Avondale Middle School, where she worked as a librarian and secretary — a natural extension of her lifelong love of learning and her deep belief in the power of education.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a Catechism teacher, she shared her love of God with generations of young parishioners. It was a calling she cherished, and one that touched countless lives throughout her community. For decades, Alverta faithfully served as a communicant of St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama, LA.
Alverta was, above all, immensely proud of her family. She often spoke with joy about the fact that her three children were not only the first in her family to earn a college education, but each went on to earn advanced degrees as well — a testament to the values of hard work and learning she instilled in them from the very beginning.
Outside of her devotion to her family, faith, and community, Alverta found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to sew, crochet, and knit, creating beautiful handmade treasures for those she loved. And with a smile that her family will never forget, she never met a QVC order she didn’t like — always finding just one more “must-have” she simply couldn’t live without.
But nothing brought more light into Alverta’s life than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joy, her proudest legacy, and the reason her heart remained so full for over 100 wonderful years.
Alverta leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to guide her family for generations to come. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2026 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Ama, LA. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Cemetery in Raceland, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada, MS and one hour prior to the service Thursday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Ama, LA. Immediately following visitation Wednesday evening, the Holy Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home chapel.
Survivors include her son, Dr. David Daigneault(Gail) of Grenada, MS; daughter-in-law, Marie Daigneault; four grandchildren, Brad Daigneault(Lizz), Scott Daigneault(Alicia), Tara Daigneault and Jenn Daigneault; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas, David and Youree Daigneault.
Mrs. Daigneault is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Leon Daigneault, II; sons, Bruce Joseph Daigneault and Joseph Leon Daigneault, III; sisters, Laverta Margotta and Florence Petit; and brothers, Jim and Clifton Breaux.
Pallbearers will be Scott Daigneault, Lucas Daigneault, Brad Daigneault, Ricky Breaux, Dennis Breaux and David Troxler.
