A St. Charles Parish corrections officer and his girlfriend were stabbed last week by the officer’s brother, according to police.
The victims were attacked inside of the LaPlace home of the officer, 21-year-old Aden Manson, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The attack appeared to be unprovoked, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Anthony Manson Jr., 31, was arrested and charged with aggravated second-degree battery, a felony. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Manson lived in the house with Aden Manson and other family members.
Aden Manson and his girlfriend, 20, were transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans and are expected to recover. The victims were able to alert three other adult relatives who were inside the house at the time. They were not injured, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The couple reported to police they were asleep in bed when Anthony Manson kicked open the bedroom door and attacked them with the knife, stabbing them repeatedly. They were able to escape and ran outside of the house.
St. John officers were alerted to the attack at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 24. Deputies responded to the 100 block of Devon Drive in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived on scene, several people were located outside the house; two of whom were bleeding from stab wounds.
Deputies were informed that the suspect was inside the residence armed with a knife. While two deputies rendered first aid to the victims including applying tourniquets, other deputies entered the house. Deputies observed Anthony Manson standing in a hallway with a kitchen knife in his hand. Manson complied with verbal commands to drop the knife and was arrested.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne released a statement regarding the incident.
“Aden Manson, who has been employed by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office for one year, and his girlfriend were victims of a violent and unprovoked attack while they were asleep. We have learned that both individuals survived the attack, and we pray for their speedy recovery,” Champagne said.
