Hahnville puts on complete, dominant performance in road victory

Tyree Davis of Hahnville carries against Thibodaux.

Hahnville arrived at Thibodaux Friday night fresh off of two big wins in a row, but left no doubt that this is a team still very hungry for more.

HHS soared to a 35-point lead early in the third quarter, slamming the door early in an eventual 45-21 District 8-5A victory – and a complete performance on offense, defense and special teams.

It was another huge night for Calvin Smith, who added three more touchdown runs to what’s been a huge season for the senior runner. Landen Teague connected with three different targets for touchdowns in the biggest game of the sophomore passer’s young career so far.

“I thought we played well in all three phases in the first half,” said Hahnville head coach Greg Boyne. “Came out in the second half and played well … (Teague) had a little coming out party tonight with three touchdown passes. He threw the ball well – he nearly had four (touchdowns). I said it during the week – he’s starting to understand what we want and the expectations. Obviously when you have CJ (Smith) and the run game, it sets up play action and the RPOs. We had a good week of practice and usually that leads to a successful Friday.”

Hahnville moves to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in District 8-5A with the win. Thibodaux dropped to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in district play.

Teague’s three touchdown passes went to Michael Propps, Kevias Singleton and Patrick Jackson.

“We practiced hard all week and put it all together tonight,” said Teague. “Running the ball well all year really sets up the passing game. (The defense) are going to come in ready to stop the run, and when that happens we’ve got to throw the ball to beat them.”

The Tigers have had a few big wins recently, but the focus level hasn’t dipped.

“Every week we reset,” Teague said. “Don’t worry about the last game, always the next one.”

Boyne said that all starts with preparation during the week.

“That’s from how the kids practice. They work their butts off, and that carries over into the game,” Boyne said.

Smith has been a wrecking ball this season for the Tigers. Friday night was the fourth game this season he has scored multiple times and his third game with at least three touchdowns. He has 13 scores on the season.

“I love my offensive line,” said Smith. “They make me look good – and when I look good, they look good,” Smith said. “Every opponent, we prepare the same way. We just try to stay level headed. We know what we need to work on and we know what we’re good at.”
