Hahnville rushed for 170 yards and completed a perfect 8-for-8 in the passing game as the Tigers routed McMain Friday night, 48-6.

Landen Teague was 7-for-7 with 90 yards and two passing touchdowns – one of those to Aaron Williams and the other to Kevias Singleton (Backup quarterback Elijah Benson completed his lone pass of the night for 15 yards for a perfect night for the HHS quarterbacks through the air).

“We practiced all week, working hard, executing plays in practice. And it just comes down to executing the plays you do in practice in the game,” said Teague, who moved to 10-3 as Hahnville’s starting quarterback with the win. “

Fabian Celestine followed up last week’s four touchdown night with two more on the ground Friday. That said – he scored on nearly half his carries. He averaged 10 yards a carry, with five attempts going for 50 yards on the night. Treson Fields also topped the 10 a carry mark with 33 yards on three attempts, with a touchdown as well. Jah’mar Lewis added his first touchdown of the season as well and Jackson Porter gained 29 yards on his lone rushing attempt. Hahnville closed the game out on a high note as well, Jordan Scholl intercepting a pass in the endzone as the final horn sounded.

The Tigers spread it out in the air, with six different players accounting for the team’s eight completions – Williams and Singleton each catching two passes for 25 and 23 yards, respectively.

After the graduation of last year’s receiving leader Kobe Louis, Hahnville needed others to step up and fill the void in the pass catching corps, among both returnees and newcomers to the position. Teague’s timing with that group seems to have progressed quickly in live action so far.

“Working with the guys even after practice, putting in that extra work to make sure everyone understands what the offense is about and that we’re on the same page on Friday night,” Teague said.

Hahnville (2-0) put the game away early. The Tigers outscored McMain 28-0 in the opening quarter, then added 14 in the second to take a 42-0 lead into halftime. With a running clock in the second half, each team added a touchdown to the scoreboard.

“Played well, played clean – I thought it was cleaner than last week,” said Hahnville head coach Greg Boyne. “Give (McMain) credit – they don’t have a lot of kids and most are playing both ways. They played all the way to the final whistle.”

McMain dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

The Tigers will carry a 2-0 record into its final pre-district game, a matchup with a tough, physical E.D. White team at Tiger Stadium. Boyne stressed immediately after the game to his team that it would have to match E.D. White’s intensity – and it would have to do so for all four quarters.

The Cardinals won a tight game against HHS last season in Thibodaux. Both programs have a long, proud history of winning.

“That’s why you come to a place like Hahnville. That’s why you want to coach at a place like Hahnville,” Boyne said. “You want big games here. We had a couple last year and this is the first one this year … we played Holy Cross in the scrimmage, played St. James in the jamboree, we scrimmaged Jesuit in the spring – to get ready for this game, to get ready for E.D. White.

“Last year, I think we went toe-to-toe with them physically – they made the plays at the end, we didn’t. This year we get them here and hopefully we can make the plays we need to make.”
