Charlie Jones, a 2008 graduate of Destrehan High School has been named a High School All-American by the The National High School Tennis All-American Foundation. Jones is the first Louisiana player ever to receive this recognition. Among the elite group of student/athletes honored in the past as tennis All-Americans are many current and former professional tennis players – including Pete Sampras, Todd Martin, Kimberly Po, Aaron Krickstein, Jeff Tarango and Taylor Dent.
Each year All-American awards are presented to the top 40 boys and top 40 girls in the United States, with the majority of those honored moving on to compete at the highest collegiate tennis levels, and a few even advancing to the professional circuits
Among Jones’ accomplishments are a 2008 Louisiana Division I State High School championship, numerous USTA State and Sectional titles, and four National Open titles.
He is the first metro area junior since the 1970s to become a national medalist when he and his partner finish 3rd in the Spring Super Nationals held in Mobile, Ala. during the second week of March, 2008.
Jones maintained a 3.97 GPA at Destrehan High School and will be attending Vanderbilt University in the fall on a tennis scholarship.
