Louise Garrison Worrell

Louise Garrison Worrell died on Sept. 14, 2012 in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born on March 27, 1917 in Ryan, Okla., the only child of Samuel Young Garrison and Ruby Spain Garrison, both of whom were born in Indian Territory before Oklahoma statehood. Always proud of her Oklahoma roots, Louise was a graduate of Ryan High School. She completed secretarial training at Draughon’s Business University in Oklahoma City in 1936 and lived for a time in New Mexico before her marriage.

She eloped with her Ryan classmate Jones “Casey” Danforth Worrell on May 24, 1939, when he was a student at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater. They honeymooned in the “Robber’s Cave” area of eastern Oklahoma. The Worrells lived in Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Texas and Arkansas until Monsanto Chemical transferred Casey, a chemical engineer, and Louise, an executive secretary, to St. Charles Parish in 1957. They both retired from Monsanto. Casey died in 1985.

Louise moved to Fayetteville, Ark. in 2006 to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Dan L. and Diane F. Worrell, and their son, J. Casey Worrell. She is also survived by her older son and his wife, James D. and Joanna N. Worrell and their children, Molly Worrell Stafford and David N. Worrell and his wife, Kendyl. Her great-grandchildren are Alexa and Madeline Stafford and Henry, Eva and Oscar Worrell.

Louise was a life-long Methodist and dog lover. She enjoyed cooking, playing the piano, working in the yard, watching football on TV, and doing needle-point. She was devoted to her companion dog, “Cleo.” Memorial donations should be sent to the Humane Society of the Ozarks, 1020 S. One Mile Road, Fayetteville, AR., 72704.
