Mary Lou Libert Martin

Mary Lou Libert Martin lost her battle to cancer on Jan. 25.

Martin was born on Feb. 24, 1946 in New Orleans.

Her last couple of days were filled with loving family and friends.

Her parents were the late Evelyn and Carol Barham and she was the beloved wife to the late Leroy Martin Sr.

Survivors include Martin’s two daughters Lee Martin-partner Maria Caballero and Jamie Scaffidi with son in law Chris Arguelles.  She was the sister of Betty Portera and Vincent Lawrence Libert Jr.  wife Linda Libert.  Mary had four grandchildren, Jodi Scaffidi, Nicholas Monk Jr., Brent Monk and Addison Chandler.

Martin was involved in many organizations through out her life, which included Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Missing Children’s Society of Canada and the woman’s auxiliary for the St.Rose Volunteer Fire Department.

She finally retired as a substitute teacher at St. Rose Elementary were she said all her children she taught, she thought of as grandchildren.

Martin decided to donate her body to science so she will be having a memorial at 10 a.m. Feb. 4 at Fresh Faith Worship Center 1114 E. Harding Street in Destrehan.
