Yard sale aimed at supporting Luling businesses

Bargain hunters will get a unique opportunity to shop at the first Old Luling Yard/Garage Sale on Aug. 5.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., shoppers will be able to visit numerous yard sales from Ashton Road to Sugarhouse Road and then from the railroad tracks to River Road or to the left and the right of Paul Maillard Road.

The goal is to have yard and garage sales through the area that generate new foot traffic for Luling businesses, said Karen Guillot, owner of All Kinds of Finds in Luling. The garage sales are aimed at supporting the community.

“Everybody can benefit from activities like this in the community,” Guillot said.

Guillot also noted efforts are underway to restore the area on Paul Maillard Road in Old Luling.

There are some businesses in that area that have been in Old Luling for a long time and other ones that have recently opened up shot there, including All Kinds of Finds and Stein’s Cleaners.

“The area is growing with new businesses and some are more industrial not really geared to the general public, but you see them there,” Guillot said.

People holding a yard or garage sale on the route should register. Guillot said 10 percent of proceeds from these sales will be donated to a local nonprofit association that will be announced soon.

Joey Bosco, owner of Bosco Uniform Services in Luling, said buying local keeps taxes in the parish.

As former owner of Bosco’s Cleaners, a business that was in Luling more than 40 years, Bosco understands the importance of being a part of a viable community.

Businesses supporting the event include Bosco Uniform Services and All Kinds of Finds, as well as Advanced Air, Martin’s Nursery and St. Charles Printing.
