Mary Jacob Blanchard
New Iberia –Mary Jacob Blanchard, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 28, 2026.
A native of St. Charles Parish and a resident of New Iberia for the past 15 years, Mary Jacob Blanchard was born on December 5, 1949, and spent most of her life in Houma. She was a retired educator, having taught in Grand Isle and Houma for many years, where her students were very dear to her. She often spoke fondly of them and her coworkers who made her time as a teacher special.
Mary had a kind heart and loved both people and animals. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and decorating for all seasons, especially Christmas. She was a woman of many talents and had a rare knack for making things look beautiful, turning everyday spaces and moments into something truly special. Yet, despite her many creative gifts, she will be remembered most for her quick wit and her willingness to always share a smile or a joke. Her humor was a constant source of light, turning ordinary days, into joyful memories. Mary loved her family above all else and will be deeply missed.
Ms. Blanchard is survived by a sister, Julie Jacob Montegut (Randall) of New Iberia; brother, Francis Lester “Butch” Jacob of Dallas; nieces and nephews, Andrew Jacob (Madeline), Leslie Jacob Zientek (Richard), Ryan Mongetut (Adele), and Renee Montegut Louviere; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Francis Lester Jacob; mother, Vivian Beebe Laws, and sister-in-law, Rosemary Antilley Jacob.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mary’s caregiver, Margie Sam, for extraordinary care and kindness.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 11:00 AM at the historic St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrahan, Louisiana.
