Waterford 3 displays impressive safety record

More than 15 million hours worked without a lost time accident is a remarkable feat for an industrial facility, but that is exactly what Waterford 3 Steam Electric Station employees have accomplished.

And the counter is still running.

In addition, the employees again achieved the nation’s most prestigious workplace safety and health recognition, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program. For its 2008 safety performance, Waterford 3 is a Region VI “Super Star” in OSHA’s VPP program.

Waterford 3 has achieved at a minimum “Super Star” status since joining the VPP Star Program in 2001. Entergy’s Arkansas Nuclear One, River Bend and Waterford were the first three U.S. nuclear plants to achieve VPP certification.

OSHA noted Waterford 3’s continued progress in increasing safety and health at the facility and maintaining injury/illness rates below the national industry average.
“Achieving 15 million labor hours is a reflection of a total commitment to working safely and watching out for each other,” said Site Vice President of Operations Joseph Kowalewski.

This is the eighth consecutive VPP achievement for the site.
