Veterans breakfast draws impressive crowd

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne’s veterans breakfast held Wednesday (Nov. 13) morning drew more than 100 veterans and family members.

Robert “Bobby” Lovergne, commander of West St Charles VFW Post 3750, said the event was “a tremendous success and the veterans know how much the sheriff supports the veterans of St. Charles Parish.”

Champagne announced the breakfast just days after Parish President Larry Cochran canceled the veterans’ luncheon, which the parish had held since former Parish President V.J. St. Pierre established the event. The breakfast was held at the sheriff’s training center in Luling.

Cochran said the luncheon was canceled because of declining participation.

Council members Paul Hogan and Billy Woodruff appealed to Cochran to reschedule the luncheon. Hogan sought, but could not get council support, to hold a special council meeting to reconsider the cancellation.
