Frances “Maddie” Fabre

Frances “Maddie” Fabre, born in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 11, 1941, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2026, at age 85. She was a devoted mother, mere, grand-mere. Maddie spent her life sharing love, laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family.

More than anything else, Maddie cherished her family with the support of her husband, the late Leon Fabre. She was the loving mother of Jackie Melancon (Glenn) of Sherman, TX; Brian Fabre (Andrea), and Michelle Boudreaux (Tim) all of Luling, LA and the late Lee Fabre. She was a proud and devoted Mere to Christopher Melancon (Laura), Alexandre Melancon (Lauren), Brandie Scully (AJ), Kaylie Martindale (Logan), Cameron Fabre, Ava Boudreaux, Emersyn Veale, Paxton Veale, Rowyn Veale, and Dawsyn Veale. Her greatest treasures were her great-grandchildren, Evie and Declan Scully, Natalie and Joshua Melancon, Lillian and Forrest Melancon, and Colter Martindale.

Maddie had a servant’s heart. All her life she served others. During her working years, she was an educator at Luling Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher, where she made learning fun and wrote grants for a mentor program to provide positive male role models in students’ lives.

Her love language was cooking for others. She loved gatherings with her family for meals, birthdays, and holidays. These occasions were filled with good food, endless laughter, and cherished memories. As any Cajun family knows, there is nothing quite like the kitchen as the heart of the home. It is the central gathering place full of sharing stories, cooking together, and “passing a good time.”

She volunteered countless hours at Holy Family Church as member of the Altar Society, a Eucharistic minster, and countless committees. The Archdiocese of New Orleans recognized her for service, and she was presented the Order of St. Louis IX Award.

In retirement, she spent many hours as a volunteer at St. Charles Parish Hospital’s gift shop. She loved cooking for the bake sale to support student scholarships. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program recognized her for dedication to service.

Those who knew Maddie will remember her beautiful smile, gentle heart, compassionate spirit, and genuine concern for others. She lived her faith every day, not just through prayer, but through kindness, generosity, and the love she freely gave to everyone around her.

She found her purpose, peace, and strength through her faith. In moments of joy and in times of hardship, she trusted her faith to get her though. She lived her faith through services of others. She fed the hungry, she welcomed the stranger, she cared for the sick, she lifted their spirit with her humor. Her legacy of service to others, faith, laughter, and family will continue through all who were blessed to know her.

She is also survived by her siblings: Maria Bienvenu of St. Martinville, LA; Liz Hamilton of Alvin, TX; Marc Comeaux of Lafayette, LA; Richard Comeaux of Sunset, LA; and Andi Gautreau of Carencro, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Lloyd Comeaux and Anez LeBlanc Comeaux; her beloved husband, Leon Rudolph Fabre, Sr.; son, Leon “Lee” Rudolph Fabre Jr.; sister, Janice Butcher; and brother, Francis Lloyd Comeaux Jr.
