UWSC gets ready for seventh Paddle Battle

The 7th Annual United Way of St. Charles Battle for the Paddle cook-off is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park. This event helps United Way of St. Charles to raise awareness about the organization and helps people understand how it serves the community.

The Battle for the Paddle is an annual and festive gumbo and jambalaya cook-off between teams who cook up their own special recipes on-site and serve the results to attendees of all ages who pay $5 for this all-you-can-eat extravaganza (children 12 and are free).

The event is open to the public.

Along with an unlimited sampling of gumbo and jambalaya, attendees will enjoy live musical entertainment,  a Pick 5 Raffle and local celebrity judges.

Prizes are awarded to the top three teams in both the gumbo and jambalaya competition, including the coveted grand prize – a beautifully engraved wooden paddle.

All teams participating will receive participation prizes.
At last year’s event, 74 teams competed for the titles of Best Jambalaya and Best Gumbo in St. Charles Parish. More than 1,500 people came out to show their commitment to their community and enjoy the fun. This year’s event will be even bigger and better.
