DESTREHAN – Destrehan Plantation will present its first culinary seminar on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entitled “Slow and Low, Then and Now,” the seminar presents the art of slow cooking with open hearth cooking and with electric slow cookers.
Dr. Martin “Doc” Spindel will present the seminar followed by a cooking demonstration by Michael Ledet, author of the “Joe Simmer” series of cookbooks.
Cookbooks will be on sale and lunch will be served.
Advance tickets are available for $25. This includes the seminar, lunch and a tour of the plantation.

LULING – The 29th Annual Alligator Festival is scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 25 at the West Bank Bridge Park on River Road in Luling.
This year’s event, which is sponsored by the parish’s rotary club, will feature local food delicacies such as alligator burgers, jambalaya, softshell crabs and other Cajun dishes.
Rides, games, live bands, souvenirs and local crafts are also on the line up for this weekend’s festivities.
The list of musical performers includes Bag of Donuts, Local Option 2, Full Circle, The Wise Guys, LA Kids, Allen Fontenot & the Country Cajuns, Waylon Thibodeaux and The Topcats.
Festival hours are: Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (rides and drinks only), Friday, Sept. 26 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The number of registered voters has increased steadily in St. Charles Parish since last year. Registrar of Voters Brian Champagne believes that voter registration drives conducted at different areas in the parish are the reason for the spike in the numbers.
KENNER – The St. Charles Art Guild will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a tea luncheon scheduled to be held at the Chateau Country Club located at 3600 Chateau Boulevard in Kenner on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The guild invites all present and previous members to join in their celebration of what the organization has accomplished in the past, is achieving in the present and what they are anticipating for the future.
