Teen shoots 2 while trying to break up fight, police say

A Des Allemands teen tried to break up a fight between his friend and another Luling man and ended up shooting both in the process, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred in the 1200 block of Paul Frederick St. in Luling last Thursday after a large group of people got into an argument and tempers flared, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Two people got into a fight and Nelson Robinson III, 18, of 16545 Old Spanish Trail in Des Allemands, told police that he feared for his friend’s safety. In an attempt to break up the fight between his friend and another man, LaGrange said that Robinson fired gunshots in order to get the group to disperse.

However, both men involved in the fight were shot. One of the men was shot in the leg and the other was hit in the arm and thigh, according to the police report.

Robinson was arrested the day of the incident and charged with two counts of aggravated battery. LaGrange said Robinson was not charged with attempted murder because the injuries were not life threatening and he did not intend to kill anyone.

Robinson is currently being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center under a $50,000 bond.
