Shootout at Hahnville complex

Four men have been arrested in connection with a shootout that left a 20-year-old Killona man in critical condition.

Davin Washington, 20, was shot in the head, leg and buttocks area shortly after 1 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the parking lot of the Richard Smith public housing complex at 200 Sunset Court.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said that Washington and 24-year-old Aaron Williams, of 632 Courthouse Lane in Hahnville, drove to the housing complex to find 20-year-old Earl Norman. Upon finding Norman, both sides began an argument that eventually escalated into gunfire between Washington and Norman, Yoes said.

Norman allegedly emptied a magazine from his weapon and shot five more times from another gun belonging to a friend. Authorities do not know who began shooting first.

“Witnesses say that Aaron Williams was being very descriptive in his words in urging Davin Washington to shoot Earl Norman,” Yoes said. “After Washington was shot, Williams got in his vehicle and drove away.”

Williams was arrested  Monday night when he showed up to see Washington at the hospital.

Norman also fled the scene after the shooting and went to a residence he shares with Adrian Mitt, 26, of 373 Smith St. in Hahnville. The two took a shotgun and a 9mm semi-automatic weapon from the home and ran through a wooded area to get rid of them, Yoes said.

“They were trying to hide the weapons and left the shotgun in the woods and dropped the handgun in a ditch,” Yoes said.
A 22-caliber gun was later found in their residence.

Both men were then arrested at Civil Construction Company, which is a short walk from the scene of the crime.

The fourth man arrested in connection with the shooting was 20-year-old Javin Downing, of 240 Trailsway Drive in Hahnville. Yoes said that Downing hid a weapon used by Washington.

Norman was charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and carrying an illegal weapon and Mitt was charged with being an accessory to the crime.

Williams was booked with principal to attempted first degree murder and possession of crack, while Downing was arrested for obstruction of justice.

Washington and Williams are currently awaiting a March court date for charges that stem from a May  2009 incident that led to two people being shot at a 1-year-old toddler’s birthday party. More than 100 people were in attendance when an argument broke out. Three men, one of whom was asked to leave the party after the argument, later returned to the party and opened fire.

The father of the child was shot in the chest.

Washington and Williams turned themselves in after the  crime and were charged with two  counts of attempted murder.
Washington is also scheduled to go to court to face an armed robbery charge from September of last year.
