A 48-year-old LaPlace man has been arrested after authorities say he broke into the Norco home of his ex-girlfriend and assaulted another man in the residence.
Wendell Bailey, of 1112 St. Clair Loop, was charged with aggravated burglary and second degree battery.
Bailey showed up at the residence at 11:27 p.m. on March 24 and began banging on the door of his ex-girlfriend’s home.
The woman didn’t open the door at first, but Bailey continued pounding on it and she finally relented because she believed the door would break off the hinges, Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.
“She opened the door and barricaded it, but Bailey forced his way inside the home by shoving her into a refrigerator,” LaGrange said. “Bailey made his way down the hall where he located another man and they got into a physical altercation.”
Bailey, who is 6’4”, 290-pounds, hit the 37-year-old Baker man in the head, back and rib cage, LaGrange said. The woman couldn’t call the police because her phone broke when she crashed into the refrigerator, so she ran outside to get help, according to the arrest report.
“She was able to find a neighbor who came with her to her home and calmed Bailey down,” LaGrange said. “He was eventually able to get Bailey to leave the home and drive away.
“We don’t know if it was a lovers’ quarrel, but it was a very serious situation.”
The 37-year-old victim man was rushed to the hospital where he suffered bruised ribs, bruised arms and a laceration on his left cheek. Doctors also discovered that the victim had fractured his cheekbone.
“This incident caused a huge mess in the home…pictures were destroyed and furniture was broken,” LaGrange said. “If someone is acting in this manner, do not let them into your home. Call the Sheriff’s Office and we will come over and deal with the situation.”
