Parish releases mid-term ‘report card’

January 2010 marked two years since the St. Charles Parish Council and Parish President took office for their current terms.

The milestone finds parish leaders taking stock of their accomplishments in a new 16-page report produced by the Public Information Office.

Based on a set of eight administrative goals, the report outlines the many ‘action steps’ taken since early 2008. The report also includes a chart defining the many steps projects must go through to reach completion, as well as a complete list of infrastructure projects currently being constructed or designed.

Highlights include the installation of a new culvert under U.S. 61 in Norco, repair of the East Bank wastewater treatment plant in Destrehan, and a ramped-up maintenance program for ongoing cleaning of ditches and canals.

The report also features an entire page devoted to the progress being made on the West Bank hurricane protection levee. Parish officials recently applied for a permit to construct Phase II of the levee, which is planned for the area south of the Willowridge subdivision in Luling. Firms hired by the parish continue the process of permitting and land acquisition along the entire proposed rout, from the Davis Diversion to the Sunset levee system in Paradis.

The Mid-Term Report is available at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse in Hahnville or can be mailed by filling out a request at stcharlesparish-la.gov/midtermreport. Web visitors can also view the information online at that address.
