Parish president had 3 different painkillers in blood sample, but no alcohol

Three prescription painkillers were found in St. Charles Parish President Larry Cochran’s blood samples that were taken from his Sept. 2 arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Oxymorphone were all detected in his blood sample, according to Kenner Police Lt. Brian McGregor who released the results today (Oct. 18).

The Herald-Guide has reached out to the Parish President’s office for comment.

Although the results show no alcohol in his system, McGregor said these are controlled substances and it will have to be determined if these drugs were prescribed to Cochran.

McGregor said the results will be forwarded to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office to review and it can request additional testing.

“The charges are what they are regarding impairment,” he said. “The decision on the case regarding criminal charges is solely the DA’s Office decision on how they wish to proceed or amend the criminal charges.”

On Sept. 2, Cochran was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Kenner. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Blood samples were taken when he couldn’t finish the field test, according to Kenner Police.
