Film crews at local bar, residence

Filming for the third season of the “Queen Sugar” series will include at least two locations in Luling.

On Monday, the production set up base camp on River Road near Jackie Bee Road in Luling. Film crews went to the Pit Stop Saloon in Luling and then to a residence for filming, also in Luling.

Oprah Winfrey is among the show’s three executive producers along with the show’s creators, Ava DuVernay and Melissa Carter. Winfrey’s Harpo Films along with Warner Horizon Television are producing the drama, and the series aired in September of 2016 on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Winfrey and DuVernay worked together on the 2014 movie, “Selma.”

Based on the book of the same title by Natalie Baszile, the series follows the life of three siblings.
